The Book Cliffs, one of Grand Junction’s notable geographic features, start in Palisade and extend 200 miles into Utah. Mount Garfield is the high point of this range. It overlooks Palisade’s orchards and wine country.
Two trails—Gearhart Mine Trail and Mount Garfield Trail—lead to the top of Mount Garfield. Both trails are extremely steep, with an elevation gain of 2,000 feet, providing a challenge for even the most avid hiker.
